The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society is moving into its 10th Anniversary year in 2013. As a board of directors we recognize that there is room to increase our membership as we plan the events and opportunities for the coming year.

We are currently seeking energetic members of the community who are looking for a way to be involved. Skills and assets we require include:

  • accounting/finance, fundraising
  • event planning
  • performance arts
  • marketing

It's here! The 2012 VDM Board is proud to present THE NINTH ANNUAL VANCOUVER DYKE MARCH & FESTIVAL, back to its old stomping ground at Grandview Park!!

**New to this year's celebrations and rarin' to go is a BEER GARDEN from 1pm-5pm at Grandview Park, facing the festival stage for your viewing and listening pleasure! (19+, 2 pieces of valid ID to enter). All proceeds make this event happen!**

Everyone is welcome! This annual event is held for LGBTQ Women, but it's a celebration that enthusiastically encourages friends, family, partners, lovers, and Queer Allies to come out in support and celebration too!!

Gathering for the March begins at 11:30am at McSpadden Park (E 5th Ave at Victoria Dr) and marches down Commercial Drive at noon ending at Grandview Park (Charles St at Commercial Dr) with our Family Friendly music Festival.

    Join us early at McSapdden to:
  • Buy your VDM shirt to wear on the March
  • Be part of painting our banner for 2012
  • Gather with friends to get in to the spirit of the event
  • Watch the Dykes on Bikes get ready to head up Commercial
  • Listen to the Rainbow Concert Band as they lead us on our March
    The Festival at Grandview Park will feature:
  • Children's Area
  • Live Music and Entertainment
  • Community Booths and Vendors
  • A selection of Local Food Vendors (some vegan/veggie-friendly options)
  • Beer Garden from 1pm-5pm

We will be holding a Hockey night at the Fountainhead (1025 Davie Street, Vancouver, BC). So come with your friends and enjoy a night out while supporting the Canucks and the Vancouver Dyke March! There will be door prizes, a 50/50 draw, trivia and more. The game starts at 7pm, but get there early!

Dyke March Town Hall Shows Promising Engagement

For Immediate Release:
-- The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society are pleased to announce that, based on community attendance at their recent ‘town hall meeting’, the 8th annual Dyke March and Festival will go on as scheduled Saturday July 30.

On Wednesday April 27th lesbian, trans, gay and straight allies participated in an evening of facilitated conversation regarding the future of the Vancouver Dyke March and Festival. Over 50 people were in attendance, including City of Vancouver Councillor Ellen Woodsworth, and energy was positive and charged to support the continuation of a women run, family friendly, day time event during Pride weekend. The Board of the VDM was buoyed by the turn out and the willingness of more than 20 attendees to participate further in board or committee work.

With this show of support and community ownership, the Board will work with new members to ensure that a Dyke March and Festival event is an option for lesbians, trans community and allies to attend. Fundraising will be the new focus from this point on, with a recognition that finances may impact how the event looks this year. The board has planned their next meeting for May 12th and has connected with all of the individuals who expressed interest in being part of the process to have a successful Dyke march and festival.

The board would like to thank the Vancouver Pride Society and City of Vancouver for their on-going support of this unique, community event.

Save the 8th Annual Vancouver Dyke March

For Immediate Release:
-- On May 5th, 2011 the Vancouver Dyke March and Festival Society (VDMFS) board will have to make a very tough decision regarding the possible cancellation of the 8th Annual Vancouver Dyke March and Festival.

The VDM's Annual General Meeting was held at Qmunity on February 19th, 2011 and despite publicizing the meeting, only the current board members were in attendance. The VDM board is now reaching out to the community in hopes of securing 6 new board members and funding to proceed with the event scheduled on July 30th, 2011.

Finances for the march and festival come from a variety of sources including City grants, fundraising events and donations collected on the day. Similar to what is happening with other festivals, these contributions have been slowly declining through the years. Additionally, fundraising events have been poorly attended. Facing these challenges last year, the 2010 march and festival required the use of reserve funds. As a result, every penny of the close to $15,000 it takes to put on the event must be raised for this year's event to happen.

In addition to funds, and equally important, there is a strong need for new, energetic community members to take on some leadership as board directors to ensure that the event continues to reflect the community it represents and supports. The current board is highly motivated to nurture a group of engaged and creative people to aid in putting on this year's event and to plan for 2012.

On April 27th, VDM, in partnership with the Vancouver Pride Society, will hold a Town Hall meeting at the Wise Hall, 6pm. We encourage you to take this opportunity to voice your thoughts and express your support for an event that is vital to the city's LGBTQ community.

The vision for the Vancouver Dyke March is to bring an all-inclusive, female / family, dog-friendly march and festival into the East side (Commercial Drive area). We hope people and dogs of all ages will enjoy an afternoon of visibility, pride, music, community art and merry-making the day before the annual Pride Parade.
